Why I’m Hiking

I have an endless list of reasons for hiking the Appalachian Trail so I’m just going to have some FUN here and continue to add to this list as I think of them…enjoy! (No order..except the first one is the best one):

I will be hiking for kids through the Hudson Family Foundation
I absolutely love big challenges! This is a LARGE one!
  For the adventure
I get to miss a bunch of political BS in 2012… :)
The fishing hasn’t been very good in the Gulf of Mexico with all the oil, dirty water, and fishing regulations these days.
Reality Check…we didn’t get here today without having some tough ancestors in our family tree..
With a bad economy, it’s a nice time to escape an ugly world.
”No one ever dies wishing they had spent another day at work” That’s a FACT! On the flip side to that..I can truly say that I’ve always loved my career in building construction.
“You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.”
Mae West
“If it doesn’t kill you, it will make you stronger”
Simple Life… I want “to experience life at its most basic level: food, water, shelter.”
Want to experience life for a extended period of time outside of the man-made jungle.
  For the solitude
Will be nice to have a “License to Eat” knowing I won’t gain a pound.
Knowing this is not the American way anymore, it will be nice to be responsible for myself and for my actions. You can’t sue mother nature.
Need to complete this hike before December 21, 2012…for it’s the end of the world!… :)
“There is always a reason to not do something…ALWAYS”
“When asked “What thing about humanity surprises you the most?”, the Dalai Lama answered:
“Man…. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.”
― Dalai Lama XIV
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely
in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways,
chocolate in one hand, red wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally
worn out and screaming ~ “WOO HOO what a ride!”
― Hunter Thompson (w/ a couple of revisions)
“Life is to be enjoyed, not endured”
― Gordon B. Hinckey
“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass…it’s learning to dance in the rain.”
― unknown
“Dream as if you’ll live forever, live as if you’ll die today.”
― James Dean

Every year I find some AT blogs to follow on their journey. With a 4 year old and an 8 month old, my own hike is still a few years off. Excited to track your progress!

All very valid reasons………good philosophy to remember as we go through life. All of us should be chasing our dreams. I’ll be thinking about you frequently..
